Good day, everyone and welcome to TOKI. My name is Rachel.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto majoring in English and history. I hold a TESL certificate from Oxford Seminars. I also have a Health Records Clerk Certificate from Centennial College. I wanted to become a teacher because I love languages and teaching the English language. I also love to write. I have been teaching English online to Chinese children since 2016 and currently teach English to adults in Brazil since 2017.

I use a lot of repetition in my lessons to encourage more speaking and reading. I believe that it is okay to make mistakes when trying to learn, and that repetition and constant exposure to a language and using it regularly is key to successfully mastering it.

In my spare time, I like to do writing, photography, making scrapbooks, and to travel.

Best advice to my students is that it is okay to make mistakes when speaking English, people usually understand what you are saying and they appreciate the effort you make in trying to use the language. Always find creative ways to listen and use English outside the classroom as well.
